It seems like just a couple of weeks ago since I started this newsletter. Oh wait, I did. With that said, I bring you our next iteration, Iterative Venture! đ„
Before we dive into the details, please be sure to also subscribe to our new AngelList page here. âïž
Additionally, we now have events calendar too! Please subscribe here to check out what is happening! đ
Now, let us introduce who we are.
Overview
As of 2020, there are 305 million total startups created with 1.35 million of such startups in the technology space. Furthermore, there are about 472 million entrepreneurs worldwide with many more who are prospective entrepreneurs.
On the investment side, angel and seed deal financings roared back to life during the second half of 2020, and that momentum carried through to Q1 2021. By Pitchbookâs estimate, over 1,500 of these deals occurred during Q1, the highest quarterly total tracked. Consequently, angel investments topped $1 billion in deal value for the second consecutive quarter - the only two quarters to top that mark. For comparison, the average from 2016 to Q2 2020 was just $700 million per quarter.
Never has there been a greater need to cultivate entrepreneurship in order to bring about the best innovation to solve some of the worldâs most critical problems in such trying time.
And us, (ex-) Facebookers, it is in our DNA that we believe in the power of building a community that gives power to the people and brings the world closer and better. And we have the right experience and skillset to supercharge the transformation.
Iterative Venture seeks to foster entrepreneurial spirit and endeavors through creating and refining an efficient marketplace and community to best cultivate such an environment for both founders and investors to join forces.
Our Vision
At Iterative Venture, we seek to provide the best place for founders and investors to partner to solve world problems.
Our Mission
Iterative Venture leads the way to cultivate entrepreneurial endeavors - by connecting founders and investors, bringing resources to our community for both founders and investors, and supporting our portfolio companies throughout their entire journey.
Iterative Venture Structure
We believe in creating an efficient marketplace. As such, we want to encourage both the deal flow as well as the contribution to the marketplace via community development etc.
Syndicate Structure
Carry Incentive Structure as of 5/9/2021
Deal Sourcing: 30% of total carry received by Iterative Venture
Due-diligence: 20% of total carry received by Iterative Venture
Community pool: 30% of total carry received by Iterative Venture
Discretionary pool: 10% of total carry received by Iterative Venture
General Partner pool: 10%Â of total carry received by Iterative Venture
We reserve the discretionary pool in the event of unforeseen opportunities.
* Carry is defined here.
** Of the 20% of carry, AngelList receives 5% and Iterative Venture receives 15%.
Community Pool Allocation as of 5/9/2021
We firmly believe in community helping one another out or to keep bringing in resources to help make the marketplace more efficient. We will be assigning points to members as follows:
Brought an investor that invested in a deal: 100 points
Presented as the sole speaker: 20 points
Presented as a panelist: 10 points
Introduced an expert in a field: 50 points
Are there other activities you would like to see? Please submit a proposal here.
An expert is defined as someone who can give talks on any field or someone who can make further introductions and/or support portfolio companies.Â
The points will then be tallied up at the end of each quarter and will be allocated towards each of the contributors proportionally. For example, if the total points is 10,000 points and you received 1,000 points. Then your allocation at the end of the quarter is 1,000/10,000 = 10% of the community pool.
To be qualified for consideration for the community pool distribution, you will need to have at least 100 points.
Quarterly Planning Dates
Because our vision is to create the most efficient marketplace, we will keep iterating on the syndicate carry structure on a quarterly basis on the following dates in a calendar year:
January 1st
April 1st
July 1st
October 1st
Should there be situations that quarterly may be too often, we will also review such structure on an annual basis on 1/1 to ensure that we keep iterating towards the right direction.
Reference
Because we will keep iterating, such structure is living breathing. To check the latest version, please see here.
